Summary:
 
  • The General Manager of Electrical Distribution has management oversight for all operational activities and supervision of electrical operations.
  • This position is responsible for providing leadership and direction for all electrical operations, quality assurance, operations support, external stakeholder relations and asset management.
  • This includes accountability for financial and operational performance as well as safety and service quality metrics.
  • Responsibilities include setting goals for the team that align with company goals, and the monitoring the ongoing achievement of stated goals to meet key performance indicators.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
 
  • Operates within the overall strategic direction set forth by the company and provides leadership and direction to guide financial, operational, and service performance and ensures the business and the organization are managed within the scope of the strategic goals of the Company.
  • Leads, supervises, and supports a team of professionals in new construction, maintenance or repair work of energized and de-energized overhead & underground work.
  • Carry out managerial responsibilities including interviewing, hiring, training employees, planning, assigning and directing work, providing feedback to employees, rewarding and disciplining employees as well as addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Work with field leadership to plan resource requirements based on projected workloads.
  • Accountable for ensuring that appropriate and necessary standards and administrative policy guidelines are established and maintained for the operations and business.
  • Plans and directs all aspects of the organization's underground electrical construction function.
  • Communicates organization's objectives to state, city or local government and other necessary associations.
  • Directs project leads and ensures all projects are completed on time, within budget, and according to pre-established specifications.
  • Establishes overall direction and strategic initiatives.
  • Encourages and demonstrates candid, professional and respectful discussions that support appropriate and constructive ideas and opinions.
  • Actively engages and participates with customers to develop and maintain support company goals and objectives.
  • Implements operational processes to meet the needs of the business, produce sustainable growth, and minimize risk.
  • Build customer relations and represent division at conferences and customer meetings as needed.
  • Manage RFP process for assigned region and review associated bid packages.
  • Maintains an active interface with all staff;is present, visible and responsive to needs of all employees within span of control;encourages employees to be professional, transparent and accountable and creates strong morale.
  • Works effectively with various teams to develop trust, transparency, accountability, cooperation, and teamwork.
  • Works with the Finance team to support the preparation of annual budgets and 3 year plans and ensures that budgets are consistent and aligned with business objectives and strategic plans.
  • Evaluates operational performance results against organizational goals.
  • Oversees implementation of quality assurance and quality control processes to enable electrical construction services in compliance with state and federal regulation.
  • Drives a safety-first culture by supporting safety initiatives, enforcing stop work authority and supporting ongoing safety training and education.
  • Collaborates and coordinates with various corporate service functions including but not limited to Risk/Compliance, Legal, Human Resources, EHS, IT, Business Development and Marketing.
  • Knows and adheres to all laws and regulations pertaining to electrical operations, environmental quality and safety, and customer relations management.
  • Ensures assessment of current and future customer expectations and requirements, and monitors plans to achieve or surpass these expectations and all standards of excellence.
  • Maintains and applies technical and business knowledge of current and possible future utility and regulatory trends, policies, and practices.
  • Significant travel is expected, could be 50% or more.

Education and/or Experience:
 
  • Bachelor's degree plus a minimum of ten years of related electrical experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience.
  • Ability and experience necessary to obtain a FL, GA, AL, LA, SC and MS utility electrical contractors license or currently possess license(s).
  • Ability to read and understand project scopes and estimate project values.
  • Proven leadership with the goal of optimizing organizational performance.
  • Possess and exercise considerable judgment, initiative, and professional knowledge in performing the duties of this position, including making reasoned and informed technical and business decisions.
  • Proven ability to effectively manage a diverse regional team.
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must be willing to travel as needed.
  • Strong organizational skills, high level of accuracy and be able to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Must have high level of confidentiality and a good understanding of general business practices.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities at one time.
  • Proven written and verbal communications abilities;proficiency with computer applications, including Microsoft Office suite.
  • High-stress tolerance;must be able to thrive in a high-pressure environment

Physical Requirements:
 
  • Sit, stand and walk continuously throughout the scheduled workday.
  • Stand, reach, drive and use fine motor skills frequently throughout the day.
  • Occasionally bend, kneel, squat and climb throughout the workday.
  • Lift up to 40-50 lbs. On occasion.
  • Must work in a manner that will not jeopardize the health and safety of him/herself or others.
