Position: Inventory and Logistics Specialist

Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma, GED, or at least 2 years of recent and relevant work history.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Successful previous experience working in a logistics or shipping/receiving work environment.
  • Previous experience safely operating forklifts and other shop equipment.
  • High level of attention to detail in juggling multiple duties and responsibilities.
  • Ability to work in a warehouse/shop environment.
  • Experience, willingness, and ability to work in a shop environment and to work various shifts on various days as required, including having a flexible work schedule to perform auditing and training on various shifts.
  • Ability to maintain reliable and predictable attendance.
  • High level of dependability, great attitude, and ability to work well with a team towards achieving a common goal.

Typical Day:
  • Responsible for inventory management and control metrics in a 24/7 shop environment.
  • Pull material from the warehouse for shop use, ensuring material is issued to the correct locomotive with all necessary information: position, serial number, removal reason, service sheet.
  • Manage stockouts weekly, including obtaining updated estimated times of arrival for completely stocked-out parts or parts low on stock.
  • Perform daily cycle counts to find and correct inconsistencies in inventory on hand.
  • Forecast material needs for inbound and in-shop locomotives and pull in any needed material in a timely and cost-efficient manner.
  • Perform quality control processes on inbound and outbound shipments to meet company standards, including checking shipment documents for discrepancies and resolving potential transportation delays or conflicts.
  • Arrange LTL and expedite shipments using the Ryder portal, ensuring correct paperwork is attached to all shipments and correct BOLs are used for proper billing. Ensure customs documents are requested and obtained prior to shipping when needed.
  • Effectively use multiple software programs to order, receive, ship, and track material to and from the warehouse, including Hazmat material with appropriate shipping documents.
  • Read mechanical drawings to determine needed material.
  • Operate a forklift, including daily shift inspections.
  • Compile reports on various inventory metrics.
  • Process sales of material.
  • Retrieve repair cycle assets from the shop floor, including timely and appropriate processing of assets in Oracle to ensure material is repaired and returned to stock quickly.
  • Restock warehouse and shop floor material.
  • Perform general housekeeping, maintenance, and organization of the warehouse.
  • Process warranty claims on any removed core that is warranty eligible.
  • Perform daily counts of large commodity assets, including verification of serial number and size for both FGI and repair cycle assets.
  • Answer requests from Circle of Service shops requesting additional material for locomotives, ensuring the correct parts are requested, work orders are open, material is transacted correctly in Oracle, and appropriate shipping is arranged.
  • Wear the proper safety equipment.
  • Record materials transactions such as receiving, distribution, and usage via appropriate system transaction or computer program.
  • Assemble customer orders from stock and place orders on pallets or shelves or relocate orders to a holding area or shipping department.
  • Assist/lead with the coordination of physical inventory counting.
  • Perform all other job duties as assigned and required.

Physical Demands:
  • Standing for long periods.
  • Walking on hard and sometimes uneven surfaces throughout the day.
  • Walking up and down stairs.
  • Climbing on/off of locomotives.
  • Fitting into small or tight spaces if needed.
  • Wearing all required personal protective gear (hardhat, steel toe boots, ear plugs, eye protection) throughout the day.
  • Speaking and hearing.
  • Typing and operating a computer.
  • Working overnight shifts and multiple days in a row, as required.
  • Performing other duties outside of your function or trade, with adequate training provided if necessary.
